National School Sports Week 2025, which ran from 16–22 June, gave schools across the UK the chance to celebrate the power of sport, play and physical activity in helping children thrive.
Led by the Youth Sport Trust, the annual event encourages schools to create fun, inclusive opportunities for pupils to get active, try new activities and build confidence through movement. From playground games and team challenges to whole-school sports days, the week highlights the important role that physical education plays in supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
For many pupils, PE lessons and school sport are where they first discover the joy of movement, teamwork and personal achievement. National School Sports Week shines a spotlight on these experiences and reminds us how valuable regular physical activity is in helping children develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.
It is also an opportunity for teachers and schools to celebrate the creativity and enthusiasm that make PE lessons engaging and inclusive for all pupils, regardless of ability or experience.
As schools take part in activities throughout the week, the focus remains on participation, enjoyment and building confidence. Whether pupils are learning a new skill, supporting teammates or simply discovering that being active can be fun, every experience helps to foster a positive relationship with sport and physical activity.
National School Sports Week continues to play an important role in encouraging schools, families and communities to work together to support active, healthy lifestyles for young people.
